Dinner

I made up a couple of dishes for dinner tonight:
Mustard greens with bamboo shoots and shitake mushrooms
Mustard greens with bamboo shoots and shitake mushrooms
Ingredients:
Mustard Greens
Sliced Bamboo Shoots
Shitake Mushrooms
Green onions
Olive oil
Soy Sauce

Directions:
Soak mushrooms in warm water for ~30 mins. Chop mustard greens, separating the stalks from the leaves. Fry mustard green stalks until tender, then add bamboo, sliced shitake mushrooms and chopped green onion. Turn repeatedly, then add mustard green leaves. Sprinkle on soy sauce, and cook until greens are nicely wilted.

Verdict: Good, but lacking a unifying flavor.

Spicy tofu with green beans
Spicy tofu with green beans
Ingredients:
Firm Tofu
Green Beans
Garlic (~two cloves)
Large Jalapeño Pepper
Garlic Pepper Sauce
Fish Sauce
Olive Oil

Directions:
Snap ends off of green beans. Fry chopped garlic, whole green beans and sliced jalapeño in pan. When the beans are cooked, remove and fry diced tofu, adding fish sauce and chili garlic sauce. When tofu is browned, mix green beans back in and stir.

Verdict: Good! Spicy

    I am a Chinese.
This is first time I saw tofu was done with green bean. LOL…

Make sure the green bean is well done, otherwise, it is poisonous.

Haha, I think I’ve had green beans with pork before, so I thought tofu might work as well. I’ve never heard of them being considered poisonous before, we had a garden when I was growing up and would always eat them raw off of the plant. Now I see that there is some debate, but perhaps different people are more sensitive to them, or maybe there are different types of beans that are more or less poisonous.

I mean if kidney bean is not fully cooked, it is poisonous. Maybe it is not green bean that you have.

By the way, try to cook tofu with tomato, or fish, or meat. :)

    • mahto says:

Oh, ok! Yeah, I wouldn’t want to eat a mature raw kidney bean either. I think the difference might be the fact that the green beans are much younger, so their beans haven’t had time to mature yet.

I will have to try tofu with some of those foods, they sound like they will have more flavor than the tofu :-).
