Cardboard boat race, this Saturday!

This sounds like a pretty cool event!

Teams of people have been constructing boats out of cardboard, and are going to race them across pristine Tempe Town Lake this Saturday, April 19th. Each team, up to eight people per boat, is given 5 minutes to complete the 200 yard course. Will they make it? Will they sink in a fiery crash? Will they have fun? Hopefully the answer is yes in all cases! If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, check out these pictures from previous years.

Admission is free, and all proceeds go to support children’s charities in Tempe.

Visit the official website for more details.

Our duaghters girl scout troop will be there with a bath tub style boat. They raced last year and did not sink!

Awesome! Good luck to her! I’m bummed that I have to miss it :-(.

If admission is free, where do the proceeds come from?

Proceeds come from sign-up fees that the participants have to pay, and maybe from commercial sponsorship?
