Building a wall for a workshop

We spent the greater part of the day building out a wall to section off the workshop area at Hack Pittsburgh. This is how it went!

Hey Matt, what’s with the horizontal blocking? Fire blocking? Not sure I’ve ever seen anyone block between studs at the top plate either.

Is this a temporary wall for some projects, or is Hack Pittsburgh rearranging their room layouts?

Hmm, the top and bottom blocking is mostly as a spacer, to help align the studs because we built the wall in place. The center ones are for reinforcement, but might be superfluous. The spacing between studs is 16″, and the wall is 12′ high.

Oh, and this is a space reconfiguration, we are building out the back corner as a machine shop.
