Thing-a-day, Day 2: Light Chaser

I’m not trying to start an optical theme here, but this is my project for day two. Its a simple light-chasing circuit. It uses the 555 timer project we made at our workshop as a clock to drive a counter chip, which then feeds into a demultiplexer chip to turn on a single output at a time. I used these parts because I happened to have them- there are many others that would work just as well or possibly better. There is a schematic here, some pictures, and also of course a video:
